They sometimes look, unmistakably, like authentic medicines: same packaging box, same color of tablet, syrup or powder.<\/p>\n<p>For example, paracetamol, the most widely used painkiller in the world, is widely falsified. The WHO has already published 6 alerts (the latest date of July 10, 2023) about a fake medicine based on paracetamol and chlopheniramine to relieve colds and allergies.<\/p>\n<p>Fake medicines are dangerous for health because they contain:<\/p>\n<p>Wrong active ingredients. The active ingredients are the ingredients that give the medicine its healing properties. Cheaper, completely different ingredients are substituted for the active ingredients that should normally make up the medicines.<\/p>\n<p>Wrong dosages of these active ingredients: too much or not enough active ingredients in medications.<\/p>\n<p>Wrong excipients. The excipient is the substance which is used to incorporate the active ingredients. Here too, the excipients are different.<\/p>\n<p>What are the consequences for our health?<\/p>\n<p>Deaths: they are estimated at 400,000; some figures are as high as 700,000 victims per year. The reality is not yet known with precision.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Example 1: the UN against drugs and crime indicated, in February 2023, that 169,271 child deaths from severe pneumonia were directly linked to taking fake antibiotics.<\/li>\n<li>Example 2: during an operation on the online sale of fake medicines of which I was a part, the death from kidney failure of a 20-year-old English woman was announced, after regularly taking fake weight loss tablets purchased online.<\/li>\n<li>Example 3: 81 deaths in the United States after the administration of falsified heparin, an anticoagulant, to patients during surgical operations and 785 significant incident reports involving patients.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Disabilities: fake medicines cause serious physical, mental and psychological after-effects.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Example: a serious physical handicap resulted in a 3-year-old child treated with paracetamol syrup containing antifreeze, in Haiti.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Resistance to diseases: the treatment of chronic diseases with fake drugs underdosed in active ingredients, over time, contributes to modifying these diseases which become more resistant and therefore take longer to treat.<\/p>\n<p>-Example: an attack of malaria may pass after 5-6 days of treatment instead of 3-4 days.<\/p>\n<p>When someone in a family is the victim of a fake medicine, the impact affects the entire family.<\/p>\n<p>Talking about it saves lives&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>#StopFakeMeds #ThinkSmart Fake medicines are produced intentionally, with the aim of deceiving us.
